March 11 – Daily Fantasy Sports gaming giant DraftKings boosted its UK offering yesterday with the introduction of the Europa League and Liga MX to players.
The US giant made its UK debut last month with fantasy games played on the Premier League and announced club hook-ups with Arsenal, Liverpool and Watford. DFS platforms allow fans to compete in single-day, online games for cash and prizes.
The addition of the Europa League was timed to coincide with the first leg of the Liverpool vs Manchester United Round of 16 tie, which Liverpool won 2-0.
Jeffrey Haas, chief international officer at DraftKings said, “We are increasing our product depth, adding more leagues and contests that appeal to our growing global market. Football, as we all know, is the world’s favourite sport and we are proud to see so many daily fantasy football players using DraftKings as their second screen on match days to increase their engagement with and enjoyment of the sports they love.”
The DraftKings fantasy sports platform offer 100’s of daily active games from Premier League, MLS, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, and Liga MX as well as US sports NFL, American College Football, NHL, NBA, College Basketball, PGA Tour, MMA and various eSports games like League of Legends
Players pick a team without going over an allocated budget and then select and pay the entry fee for the competition they want to enter that team into it. The cost of entry to a competition is between $1 up to $800+. The prize money similarly scales upwards.
The UK site is developing rapidly though currently payments can only be made on the system via Paypal if the player is located in the UK. Players have to be over 18 years of age to enter a game.
No figures have yet been released as to how many UK players have signed up or the volumes of play.
