Orange stays a CAF sponsor in time for AFCON kick-off in Gabon

December 19 – Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has renewed telecoms giant Orange as a major sponsor of its competitions for another eight years. The deal has been finalised just a couple of weeks before the start of the Total Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Gabon in January.

Orange was previously title sponsor of the competition before Total came in as title sponsor across the same five competitions – Africa Cup of Nations, U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, CAF Champions League and CAF Super Cup – earlier this year. No amounts have been disclosed for either sponsorship.

Orange first became a CAF sponsor back in 2008. The new deal will run from 2017 to 2024 and will be serviced by the Lagardère Sports agency.

The tournament schedule includes:

  • The Final tournament of the Total Africa Cup of Nations (2017, 2019, 2021 and 2023);
  • The Final tournament of the Total U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (2017, 2019, 2021 and 2023);
  • The Final Phase of the Total CAF Champions League (2017 to 2024);
  • The Final Tournament of the Total Women Africa Cup of Nations (2018, 2020, 2022, 2024);
  • The Total CAF Super Cup (2017 to 2024).

Bruno Mettling, Deputy CEO of Orange, and CEO of Orange Middle East and Africa, said: “These flagship competitions in African football generate an incredible spirit of unity across communities and people, and Orange is proud to reaffirm its commitment to supporting football, as we have done for nearly 20 years. Innovations that Orange has developed, like the Orange Football Club digital platform, are particularly popular in the countries where we operate and play a vital role in supporting football fans across the region.”

As part of the sponsorship Orange will reward 30,000 fans with tickets to matches, including 1,000 tickets for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon. Orange will also award Fan of the Match award to the fan that stands out the most at every Finals match. At each game, range will also give three fans access to watch the pre-match warm-ups.
