Warner wades into Trinidad national team fiasco saying John-Williams should go

January 17 – He may still be fighting extradition to the United States over corruption charges but banned former FIFA powerbroker Jack Warner shows no sign of staying silent when it comes to domestic footballing affairs.

The disgraced former CONCACAF president says nothing short of the axing Trinidad and Tobago FA chief, David John-Williams, can atone for the embarrassment of the national coach Tom Saintfiet’s resigning after just five weeks in charge.

“The person who should be fired is David John-Williams,” the outspoken Warner told local media.

Using some classic choice words, he added: “They should fire him now. The guy has poor judgement, he doesn’t understand football. He believes football is of course like Nescafe – quick fix. He doesn’t know that in football there is no quick fix.

“There is instant coffee, there is instant chocolate, there is not instant in football.”

Saintfiet lasted just four games in charge, winning just one game  and losing three.  In a statement, the 43-year-old Belgian said he had received no support from the FA which now has to find another coach two months before T and T’s  next set of CONCACAF qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Warner, the former FIFA vice-president who served as a long-time special advisor to the TTFA, also questioned whether Saintfiet was in fact pushed out.

“The fact is he was fired … and they are dressing it up as if it was a resignation.”
