January 24 – Manchester City has taken a bigger step into the world of virtual reality with the launch of a match-day 360° VR fan experience. Fans will be able to experience the players arrival in the ‘Blue Carpet’ as well as getting dressing room access.
Developed in collaboration with Jaunt Inc., the content can be viewed via the Jaunt VR App within the Sky section, as well as across a range of VR platforms, including PlayStation VR, iOS, Android, Gear VR, Google Daydream, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and major desktop browsers.
It is also possible to get the 360 experience in 2D without a VR headset on Manchester City’s Facebook page or the CityTV YouTube channel.
The immersive video captures different moments of the matchday experience and displays them in 360° cinematic virtual reality.
Man City have led the way within Premier League clubs when it comes to pioneering digital media experiences. Diego Gigliani, Senior Vice-President of Media and Innovation for City Football Group said: “The emergence of 360 video and virtual reality has allowed us to capture some of that (matchday) atmosphere and excitement in ways that weren’t possible in the past. …We hope this pilot on the Jaunt platform reaches both existing and new fans, and reaffirms our commitment to exploring innovative ways of using VR to enhancing the fan experience to Manchester City fans, near and far.”
The VR content was filmed using the Jaunt ONE camera and the company’s premium VR technology.
