Bangladeshi journos boycott women’s team press conference after row with Kiron

February 15 – Journalists in Bangladesh have boycotted a press conference about the national women’s team after being accused of publishing negative reports.

According to the NewAge newspaper,  the accusations came from Mahfuza Akter Kiron, deputy chairman  of the Women’s Wing of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) and a member of the BFF’s executive committee.

The press conference was scheduled to be held on Tuesday before the team’s departure for a tournament in Singapore with Kiron in chair.

But media personnel reportedly refused to cover it in the presence of Kiron who had earlier apparently enforced an embargo on women players speaking with the media.

The news will do little to promote the credentials of Bangladesh’s Mahfuza Ahkter who is vying for an Asian women’s seat on the FIFA Council with elections due in May.
