Bayern fans throw in the toilet rolls over high priced Arsenal tickets

March 8 – Bayern Munich could face sanctions after their supporters delayed Tuesday’s Champions League tie at Arsenal by throwing rolls of toilet paper on to the pitch in protest over ticket prices.

After a few hundred home fans had staged a pre-match demonstration against Arsene Wenger remaining as Arsenal manager after 21 years, the travelling Bayern supporters launched their own protest against high priced ticket.

The game was stopped shortly after kick-off as stewards cleared the playing surface at Emirates Stadium.

It was not the first time Bayern fans, who reportedly had to pay £75 for a ticket and held up a banner which read “without fans football is not worth a penny,” had raised their objections to Arsenal’s policies. When the two sides met in October 2015 they used the same banner to make their point and even boycotted the first five minutes of the Champions League group stage clash.

Under UEFA rules, clubs are liable for the conduct of their fans and may be subject to disciplinary measures for acts including the throwing of objects.

Bayern won Tuesday’s last-16 game 5-1 for a 10-2 aggregate victory, heaping pressure on Wenger and the Arsenal board to make a decision about his future.
