Has FIFA’s gamble on Johansen paid off? Sierra Leone stakeholders show outward unity

March 27 – A fragile peace appears to have broken out within Sierra Leone football following an extraordinary congress in the capital Freetown.

A new ethics body has been set up to investigate, among other things, administrators accused of match-fixing.

“I’m extremely happy. It’s the start of a good working relationship between us and the stakeholders,” Sierra Leone football boss Isha Johansen was quoted as saying by the BBC

But behind the scenes Johansen, who recently won a place on the Confederation of African football executive committee, is understood to harbour serious resentment against some of those she believes are still dragging the federation down.

Although all executives and delegates seeking positions of authority must in future undergo an integrity test, it is believed at least one member of the SLFA’s inner circle with links to gambling syndicates has failed a test yet still retains his position.
