Czech police swoop on FA offices and detain chairman Pelta

May 4 – The Czech football federation says it has been raided by police and its chairman Miroslav Pelta detained in the presence of his lawyer.

Federation spokesman Michal Jurman said officials cooperated but offered no other information about the investigation which has also reportedly swooped on the offices of FK Jablonec, a provincial first-division club partly owned by Pelta as well as those of  the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport.

Once a UEFA club competitions committee member, Pelta was elected president of the Czech federation in November 2011 in succession to Ivan Hasek and re-elected in 2013. Police arrested him in the early hours as he was preparing to leave for Monaco to watch the Champions League semi-final first leg against Juventus, media reports said.

No details of the raids have been released but local reports suggested alleged embezzlement related to transactions over the reconstruction of a Prague stadium. Public prosecutors said at least three people had been indicted.
