Police raid PSG over player tax fraud allegations targeting Di Maria and Pastore

PSG dreams

May 24 – French police investigating suspected tax fraud have raided the headquarters of Paris Saint-Germain and the homes of the club’s Argentine stars Angel Di Maria and Javier Pastore as well as Nantes forward Emiliano Sala.

In December the national financial prosecutor’s office opened an investigation after so-called “football leaks” revelations claiming a raft of players and coaches were using tax havens to stash away undeclared funds.

In a statement released to French media, PSG said: “Paris Saint-Germain communicated all the information and documents requested on two of its players.

“Paris Saint-Germain emphasised that all of the relative contractual documents of these two players have been concluded in perfectly regular conditions, as the club has demonstrated systematically and with the utmost rigor.

“The club will continue to answer, in perfect transparency, any new request from the competent authorities.”

According to French investigative newspaper Mediapart, the raids were the first in connection with the allegations made by Football Leaks, an organisation embracing a group of media outlets across Europe known as European Investigative Collaborations.

The paper alleged that Di Maria, who joined PSG in August 2015 from Manchester United, had pocketed at least €5.1 million ($57.2 million) between 2013 and 2016 through offshore transactions.
