Telemundo hits record high with Mexico’s Confederations Cup performance

June 21 – Telemundo is reporting record broadcast numbers on its digital platforms for its coverage of the Confederations Cup 2017 from Russia. Nielsen ratings report that the Portugal vs. Mexico reached 4 million total viewers on Telemundo and ranks as the most streamed match ever on Telemundo’s digital platforms.

Telemundo is an American Spanish-language terrestrial television network broadcasting to Hispanic and Latino American audiences primarily in the US but also worldwide where rights allow. The broadcaster has expanded its Telemundo and Telemundo Deportes digital platforms to great effect.

Last weekend it reached 5.3 million total viewers across the first three matches – Russia vs. New Zealand, Portugal vs. Mexico, and Cameroon vs. Chile. This is an average of 1.3 million total viewers and 771,000 adults 18-49.

Telemundo boasts it outperformed “Fox Sports networks by 4X among total viewers (+335%) and among adults 18-49 (+329%.) The matches also surpassed Univision’s coverage of the FIFA Confederations Cup South Africa 2009 opening weekend, which aired in similar time periods, by 188% among total viewers and 155% among adults 18-49.”

Telemundo were of course helped by Mexico’s 2-2 draw with Portugal that broke digital records across the board. That match reached 4 million total viewers and hit 2.3 million streaming minutes, ranking as Telemundo most streamed match ever. The match window averaged 2.4 million total viewers and 1.4 million adults 18-49, outperforming Fox Sports networks by 394% and 379%, respectively.

Through the first three matches, Telemundo Deportes’ digital platforms racked up a total of 4.6 million streaming minutes and generated close to half a million social interactions.

The network is expecting more big numbers today as its coverage of the Confederations Cup continues with Russia vs. Portugal followed by Mexico vs. New Zealand – that match kicks off at 1.30pm Eastern time in the US and will be aired on both Telemundo and Telemundo Deportes.
