July 11 – Manchester United has launched a new streaming service at mutv.com which will enable subscribers to sign up to the channel without having to go through a satellite subscription. The channel will only be available to subscribers in the UK and Ireland at the start.

While the channel does not have access to live Premier League fixtures, it is launching with live broadcast of the club’s seven pre-season tour matches, including games against Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester City.

The new streaming service will cost £4.99 per month. MUTV subscribers already on the Sky and Virgin TV platforms will be able to receive the streamed signal free by registering their details.

The significance of the new streaming platform is that it puts Manchester United in full control of its own revenue collection for its TV channel and widens the number of people who can receive the channel beyond just those with Sky and Virgin platform subscriptions.

The streaming service will be accessible to watch online via desktop, tablet and mobile.

Manchester United launched its TV channel in 1998 with a schedule based live action from pre-season games, Legends matches, under 23 and Academy games, as well as first team highlights and live audio of all first team matches.

On top of the live action is layered exclusive interviews and behind the scenes access, as well as club documentary films and features.

Manchester United’s Group Managing Director, Richard Arnold, said: “The demand from supporters in the UK and Ireland is unrivalled and naturally all United fans want to know the latest news from across the club.

“Being able to watch MUTV online and on the move is something that we have worked on for a long time and are sure it will be hugely popular with our ever growing family of fans.”
