Qatar says Al Wakrah stadium is on schedule for 2018 delivery

July 18 – A second stadium being built for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar will be ready on time by the end of next year, despite the blockade imposed by Gulf neighbours.

The Al Wakrah 40,000-seat stadium will be the second venue completed after the Khalifa International stadium was delivered in May.

“The current project is going on schedule and Al Wakrah stadium will be delivered on time by the end of the next year,” said project manager Thani Khalifa Al Zarah.

Last month, a Saudi Arabia-led coalition cut  trade and transport links to Qatar depriving it of all imports by road, including construction material. But more than 50% of concrete work at Al Wakrah has been completed, said Zarah, who  insisted the road blockade is having minimal effect.
