money flying

July 25 – Forget Neymar for £200 million, Romelu Lukaku would cost £303 million if transferred in the 2027/28 season. Paul Pogba would cost £415.23 million in 10 years time.

Aaron Wallis Sales Recruitment have published a data led study into the price of football recruitment fees in the 2027/28 season. Using data from Deloitte and Transfermarkt, the conclusion is that the cost of a marquee player on average will be almost £150 million.

The average premier league transfer will cost more than £50 in 10 years time, compared to the £9.29 million average transfer fee of the 16/17 season.

The analysis uses data around total premier league spend, number of transfers, and individual transfers. The average price percentage increase of marquee football transfers over the last decade is applied to each transfer.

On these calculations Alexandre Lacazette would cost £182.25 million in 2027, as would Kyle Walker. John Stones, one of last season’s big transfers, would cost £219.87 million – more than it cost to buy Crystal Palace, Swansea or West Brom last season.
