July 28 – Australia’s leading clubs are demanding that the country’s FA (Football Federation Australia) opens its books to disclose the financial records surrounding the failed 2022 World Cup bid.

According to foxsports.com.au the Australian Professional Clubs Association has sent a letter to FFA chairman Steven Lowy demanding the disclosures as a result of the Garcia report which was finally published in June.

Australia’s spent a reported A$46 million in a bid to host the 2022 World Cup yet gained just one vote.

Garcia’s report was highly critical of Australia’s tactics detailing “strong evidence that FFA [Football Federation Australia] made improper payments intended to influence the vote of an executive committee member.”

It questioned whether the actions of former FFA chairman Frank Lowy and former FFA chief executive Ben Buckley breached World Cup bidding rules and was uncomfortable about the appointment of German businessman Fedor Radmann as a consultant, not least because it was known he had a close relationship with then prominent FIFA executive committee member Franz Beckenbauer.
