Senegal re-elect Senghor while Tanzania opt for Karia as African FAs go to the polls

August 14 – At the weekend, Me Augustin Senghor (pictured) was re-elected for a third four-year term as the head of the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) whilst the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) elected Wallace Karia, former vice-president as the new president.

Augustin Senghor was re-elected at the elective general assembly held on Saturday night in Dakar, winning in the second round of the ballot, after he obtained 264 votes against 151 votes for Mbaye Diouf Dia.

The first round of the election had seen Senghor getting 234 votes, Mbaye Diouf Dia 104 votes and Louis Lamotte 75 votes.

First elected in 2009 and re-elected in 2013, Augustin Senghor commented on his victory saying, “It’s time to move on and carry on with the major undertakings of football ahead.”

In Tanzania, Wallace Karia was elected with 95 votes out of a valid 125 (3 votes out of 128 being invalid). Ally Mayay Tembele and Richard Shija received 9 votes each, Iman Madega received eight, Mwakalebela three and Emmanuel Kimbe received a single vote.

Former president Jamal Malinzi did not stand as he stands accused, along with the TFF secretary-general of corruption and fraud.

Karia pledged to restore the status of football in Tanzania to make the game attractive for sponsors once again.
