September 21 – A ranking of top division clubs in 31 European nations according to the average age of line-ups fielded since the start of the current season shows just 15 clubs from the Big 5 leagues in the top 100 and none from the Premier League.

Top of the ranking with the lowest figure overall was Ukrainian side Stal Kamianske (21.7 years). Lille had the youngest team at Big 5 level, ranked fifth overall with an average age of 22.9 years.

The ranking, produced by the CIES Football Observatory, found that the Bundesliga, with seven clubs, had most representatives in the top 100 (Leipzig, Leverkusen, Freiburg, Wolfsburg, Stuttgart, Hamburg and Köln), there were six from Framce’s Ligue 1 (Lille, Rennes, Toulouse, Bordeaux, St-Etienne and Lyon), one from Italy (Milan) and one from Spain (Valencia).

The youngest English Premier League team in the ranking was Newcastle United at 113th out of the 466 clubs analysed.
