Egyptian joy as Salah winner books the Pharaohs a trip to Russia

October 9 – Mohamed Salah’s dramatic injury-time winner against Congo ended Egypt’s 28-year exile from the World Cup, sending the football-mad country into a massive celebration.

Salah’s penalty ensured Egypt qualified with one match still to play, making the Pharaohs, who have not reached the World Cup finals since 1990, the second African nation to reach Russia following Nigeria’s win over Zambia.

Despite being seven-time African champions, Egypt have consistently failed when it comes to the World Cup but the result sent millions of fans into the streets in an outpouring of joy.
