AC Milan crisis deepens as Gattuso drafted in to take over from Montella

November 27 – The crisis on and off the field at AC Milan has intensified with Vincenzo Montella sacked as manager and former club legend Gennaro Gattuso placed in charge.

The club are seventh in Serie A on 20 points, 18 behind leaders Napoli, after a run of only two league victories in their past nine games.

Milan, who have won the Italian title 18 times and are seven-time European champions, have not finished in the top three in Serie A since 2013 yet have spent over €200 million on new signings since Chinese businessman Li Yonghong took control in April last year in an attempt to challenge for the title.

Last week it was reported that UEFA had asked Milan for more information about the club’s financial state before deciding whether to take action for possible breaches of Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.
