FIFA-gate: Trial of Marin, Bapout and Burga set for closing arguments

December 13 – Closing statements are set to take place in the New York trial of three former South American bosses charged in the corruption scandal engulfing FIFA.

The prosecution on Tuesday concluded its case against Jose Maria Marin (Brazil), Juan Angel Napout (Paraguay) and Manuel Burga (Peru) who have all pleaded not guilty in the $200m corruption scandal.

Defence lawyers have indicated they will not be calling witnesses before closing prosecution arguments to the jury.

The trial that has so far taken five weeks and produced explosive revelations about the extent of alleged bribery at the heart of football in north and south America, and its reach into the wider world of the governing body.
