Spurs seek away games start to 2018/19 season as stadium debut pushed back to September

Spurs new stadium

February 27 – Tottenham Hotspur’s eagerly awaited 61,000-capacity, state-of-the-art new stadium may not quite be ready in time for the start of next season according to English media reports.

Several organisations have revealed that Tottenham, whose £800 million stadium is adjacent to its iconic White Hart Lane ground in north London, are “likely” to request that their first few Premier League games next season are played away so that the final touches can be delivered.

That means Spurs’ first Premier League game at the new stadium will be in September rather than when the season begins on August 11.

Reports also suggest that if no naming rights deal has been completed in time, the redeveloped venue will be known temporarily as simply the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham are playing current home games at Wembley this season while building work has been going on.
