Saudi’s declare for United 2026 as battle for Middle East votes hots up

April 4 – With Qatar having already stated it is supporting Morocco for the 2026 World Cup, Saudi  Arabia has said that it is going the other way as the race to clinch Asian backing hots up.

Saudi sports authority chief Turki al-Sheikh, an advisor to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, on Tuesday extended his support for the joint US-Canada-Mexico bid after meeting with United States Soccer Federation chief Carlos Cordeiro during the campaign trail.

“I was pleased to meet with the president of the American Football Association and chairman of the joint bid for US, Canada, Mexico, a strong bid for hosting World Cup 2026,” al-Sheikh tweeted.

Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, and Egypt cut diplomatic and trade ties with Qatar last June, accusing Doha of supporting Islamist extremists. So far, none of the other three has publicly stated which way they will vote.
