Thailand head for France 2019 – Japan, Korea and Australia battle for final slots

April 13 – Thailand’s women became the second Asian Football Confederation (AFC) nation to qualify for the France 2019 Women’s World Cup with a 3-1 win over the Philippines that also put them into the semi-finals of the Asian Women’s Cup currently being played in Jordan.

This will be the second consecutive Women’s World Cup for the Thais who join aleready qualified China.

Once again Kanjana Sung-Ngoen was Thailand’s hero, scoring twice to secure the win – as she did to ensure qualification four years ago.

Group B of the Asian Women’s Cup is evenly poised with Japan, Australia and Korea each on five points going into the final group round of fixtures.

At press time with final group matches still in play, Korea looked to be in their way to qualification and were leading Vietnam 2-0. Japan and Australia were tied at 0-0.
