Spurs build US footprint with youth coaching partnership in Florida

April 17 – Premier League Tottenham Hotspur who will be competing in the US in the International Champions Cup this summer as part of their pre-season preparations, have expanded their coaching outreach in the US with a partnership with the Florida Elite Soccer Academy.

While other European clubs have chosen to open their own academies or brand existing set-ups, Spurs have taken a different approach focussing on lending their brand and coaching expertise rather than taking over operations.

The three-year agreement with Florida Elite Soccer Academy will see the club provide coaching support to the Florida Elite teams and position a Spurs coach year-round in the US.

The Spurs coach will help train multiple elite teams, while overseeing player development using coaching methods developed within the Tottenham Hotspur Academy. Florida Elite players will also have the chance to visit London and train the club’s Hotspur Way training centre.

Andy Rogers, Global Coaching Manager at Tottenham Hotspur, said: “Tottenham Hotspur’s Global Coaching programme has a proven track record of developing players from grassroots to elite level across the world. We have been impressed with Florida Elite’s infrastructure and the synergies it has to our playing and coaching philosophy. We are delighted to be partnering with such a prominent Academy and look forward to working with them to develop the next generation of footballers in America.”

The US is a focus for Spurs’ brand expansion. The First Team has visited the US five times in the past 10 years. The Club has 66 Supporters Clubs in the country and the Global Coaching team has coached over 12,600 players in 18 different US cities including Chicago, San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles and Seattle.
