Germany and Lahm take Russian opportunity to lobby for 2024 Euros

June 19 – Germany could have done with the inspirational but now-retired Philipp Lahm when they kicked off their World Cup campaign against Mexico.

Instead the former German skipper was promoting his country’s bid for the 2024 European Championships for which they are vying with Turkey.

Lahm, one of Germany’s main 2024 ambassadors, has been accompanying German Football Federation President, Reinhard Grindel, in Russia.

“Philipp Lahm’s first-hand experience and insights as a world-class football player have provided us with unique insights that are being used to enhance the fan experience elements in our bid,” said Grindel.

“The EURO 2024 bid is of great importance for the German FA, and we have developed three exciting programmes for sharing the EURO 2024 with all European FAs – one before, one during and one after. The more we share, the more FAs will dare to do. I look forward to sharing more ideas about a EURO in Germany once we are back from the World Cup.”
