Collina blows final whistle on UEFA role, Rosetti takes charge

August 2 – Pierluigi Collina, appointed UEFA’s first ever chief refereeing officer following his retirement as one of the world’s top officials in 2005, has relinquished the post and been placed by Roberto Rosetti.

Collina, who also chairs the refereeing committee of FIFA and spent much of the World Cup in Russia overseeing the advent of the video assistant referee system, commented: “It has been a privilege to work as UEFA’s Chief Refereeing Officer during the last eight years.”

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin added: “Pierluigi brought the same vision, understanding and flair to his role at UEFA that he demonstrated in the matches he refereed.”

Rosetti was heavily involved in implementing VAR on a hands-on basis in Russia. As well as the post of chief refereeing officer, he will also become chair of Uefa’s referees’ committee.

“Roberto was the natural choice for the job,” said Ceferin. “His experience, knowledge and standing in the game are outstanding and I know he will chair the committee with passion and enthusiasm.”
