Genius Sports expands with opening of Lausanne office

August 8 – Sports data and technology specialists Genius Sports has opened a new office in Lausanne, Switzerland. The company now has offices in over 20 locations worldwide including London, Los Angeles and Medellin.

Genius Sports’ Lausanne operation will be based inside the Maison du Sport International (MSI), home to a number of international sporting federations and will provide a number of its long-term partners with close support, expertise and product training.

Steven Burton, Managing Director of Genius Sports, said: “For over 15 years, Genius Sports’ reputation has been built on forming long-term, trusted partnerships that meet the individual requirements of sports. Expanding into Lausanne will not only strengthen these existing partnerships but also drive our growth into new sports going forward.”

Genius Sports Group announced last month it was to be acquired by a group of funds advised by Apax Partners. The new money would be used to expand internationally, said the company.

No figure was announced for the deal which is expected to complete by the end of September. The buyout will see company founders and management sell their shares, though a minority stake will be retained by Genius Sports’ management team who will be retained.

The company said it will now be “better positioned” to grow both organically and through strategic acquisition.

Gabriele Cipparrone, Partner at Apax Partners, said: “We have been attracted to the sports data market for some time, having seen live data and technology as key drivers of growth.”

The Lausanne office looks like the first step on that path.
