August 17 – UEFA has reported a successful deployment of its new ticketing system via mobile app. This week’s UEFA Super Cup between Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid in Tallinn saw UEFA distribute 100% of the match tickets via the app.
To distribute tickets UEFA is using a blockchain-based ticketing system combined with mobile Bluetooth devices at the stadium points of entry.
The system has been trialled at a number of events including 50% of tickets at the 2018 Europa League final between Atlético and Marseille in Lyon.
The major advantage of the system is its security in terms of distribution which prevents forgery and duplication of tickets, and hopefully an end to ticket touts.
