October 9 – Arsenal have confirmed they are switching from Puma to Adidas for their kit deal from the 2019/20 season in a five-year ageement.

Estimates put the value of the new contract at £300 million for the five years, the third highest kit deal in world football behind Nike’s £140 million-a-year deal with Barcelona and Manchester United’s £75 million-a-year deal with Adidas.

For Arsenal the uplift from Puma to Adidas is worth about £160 million over the term of the deal. Puma paid an estimated £140 million for their deal with the Gunners in 2014.

But Puma aren’t out the big club kit supply game and are reportedly about to sign a £50 million a year deal with Manchester City.

Arsenal’s deal equals that of Chelsea’s deal with Nike which is similarly pegged at £60 million a year but runs through to 2032 when Nike would have spent a massive £900 million with the club.

After the big four deals of Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City, the drop off in terms of revenue is significant.

Liverpool’s kit deal with New Balance expires this season and New Balance will likely have to pay a lot more to keep their contract which is estimated at £28 million a season. Liverpool are said to be in discussion with Nike.

Of English club’s looking to break into the big league deal on a permanent basis, Tottenham would be next in line. They have a £30 million a year deal with Nike.

Arsenal played in an Adidas kit from 1986 to 1994 before switching to Nike until the 2014-15 season when Puma took over.
