October 19 – Big-spending Paris Saint-Germain, desperate to finally land the Champions League after years of trying, could face sanctions from UEFA after European football’s governing body announced it was opening an investigation into crowd trouble at the group match against Red Star Belgrade earlier this month.

Both clubs have been charged for disturbances at Parc des Princes on October 3,  the hosts after fans set off fireworks inside the stadium, the visitors for illicit chants.

More than 1,000 Red Star fans attended the match despite UEFA banning the Serbian club – who are also being investigated separately by French authorities for match-fixing following the 6-1 defeat – from selling tickets.

UEFA have also fined PSG €20,000 and warned coach Thomas Tuchel after the match kicked off late. Since PSG had already had one stand closed due to flares being let off during last season’s last-16 exit to Real Madrid, they could be handed a heavier penalty if found guilty this time.
