Bundesliga trio build on trade links in China with Jiangsu collaboration

October 29 – The collective German football focus on cracking the Chinese market has seen Borussia Mönchengladbach, Borussia Dortmund and FC Schalke 04, from North Rhine-Westphalia sign a collaboration partnership with Jiangsu Football Association following a trade mission organised by the German regional government.

North Rhine-Westphalia and Jiangsu have had a business and cultural relationship for 30 years which has increased in visibility following the introduction of the football partnership. Back in 1996 and 1997, Jiangsu and North Rhein-Westphalia respectively set up offices in Dusseldorf and Nanjing.

The heads of the three football clubs in China took part in a panel discussion with speakers from Jiangsu Sports Bureau and the International Football Operation Center of Suning’s PP Sports. Suning is the owner of Inter Milan which is also operating in the region.

The three German clubs welcomed talks with local organisations about potential future collaborations.

This is a second expansive move by Borussia Mönchengladbach into China. Last month the club registered a company in China and opened its office in Shanghai.
