FIFA’s big bosses strip Peru of October’s U17 World Cup hosting

February 25 – Yet another country has been stripped of hosting rights but this time it is not a regional competition but, unusually, FIFA’s very own under-17 World Cup due to be staged in just eight months’ time.

Peru are the victims after the bureau of the FIFA Council, which features the six regional confederation presidents and Gianni Infantino, took the tournament away from the South Americans who were awarded it last June.

FIFA said that following various inspection visits it found a “number of organisational and infrastructure challenges linked to the event delivery”.

FIFA said it is now “evaluating alternatives” for the October competition. They were not specified though most likely it will still be held somewhere in the same Continent.  Chile were the last South American country to stage the tournament in 2015.

Most of the 24 teams have yet to qualify.
