TECNO dials in Man City with new deal and Indian focus

July 11 – Mobile handset brand TECNO has extended its sponsorship of Manchester City that was first signed in December 2016.

The Official Global Tablet and Handset Partner of Manchester City, Chinese-based TECNO Mobile has grown from 40 to 60 emerging markets across Africa, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Middle East, Europe and South America since it first partnered with the club.

The new deal for the sponsorship is described as “multi-year” – basically a new three-year term. No value was announced for the deal.

Damian Willoughby, Senior Vice President of Partnerships at City Football Group, said: “During the past three years, we have collaborated on a number of exciting initiatives that has engaged, connected and entertained our global fanbase, particularly in India and supported the impressive growth of the TECNO business and brand.”

A marketing focus of the new deal is India where the handset provider has launched a health and fitness challenge – TECNO Race to Manchester City – which is designed to get Indian residents walking 10,000 steps a day in a virtual race to Manchester.

The virtual 60-day fitness challenge will see more than 40,000 Indian City fans and TECNO users participate, said a Man City press release.

“TECNO have consistently demonstrated their love of football, creating some unique experiences for fans and this is evidenced with more than 40,000 people signing up to the TECNO Race to Manchester City. This country-specific initiative is a fantastic example of two partners working together and we’re delighted to be continuing this successful partnership,” said Willoughby.
