Japan’s Nagoya Oceans take record fourth AFC Futsal title

August 19 – The AFC club Futsal championships in Thailand closed with a competition recrod fourth title for Japan’s Nagoya Oceans who defeated reigning champions Mes Sungun Varseqan from Iran 2-0 in the final at the Bangkok Arena.

Neto Antonio Hirata and Ryohei Ando scored for the Japanese in what an evenly matched contest with few chances.

Asia’s top 16 clubs had qualified for the finals, included the top four teams in last year’s competition.

The experience of Nagoya Oceans, coached by Spain’s Juan Fuentes, was ultimately the deciding factor.

In the seventh minute Hirata struck from inside the box with Soma Mizutani providing the assist. The seal was put on the Japanese club’s win in the 34th minute when Ando scored a volley following Yoshikawa’s corner.

In the third placed play-off, Vietnam’s Thai Son Nam triumphed helped along the way by the tournament’s top scorer Kayuza Shimizu.
