Shared energy: Milan clubs fuelled by joint A2A partnership

October  9 – They are fierce city rivals on the pitch yet they share a stadium, want to jointly build a new one, and now share a sponsor. Italian club giants AC Milan and Internazionale have jointly announced A2A Energia as their official energy partner.

“We’re especially proud to be the ‘Official Energy Partner’ of two clubs who like Gruppo A2A, have over 100 years of history behind them and they’re closely tied to the local area but appreciated across the whole country,” said the Gruppo A2A CEO Valerio Camerano. “Passion and performance are what we want to share with Inter and Milan. In A2A, they will have a unique and reliable partner that will be able to provide a great deal of experience from the worlds of energy and efficiency and one that is committed to innovation which has always characterised the work of Gruppo A2A.”

The sponsorship will focus in particular on environmental issues in regard to improved energy performance.

AC Milan Chairman Paolo Scaroni said: “Milan and A2A are brought together by strong ambition and constant evolution, this agreement has come about thanks to our club culture as a socially-progressive body that also focuses on the well-being of the area in which we work. We hope that this partnership marks the start of a constant process of growth alongside one another.”

That growth will include as new stadium for the clubs as well as new (separate) sponsor partnerships. Both are currently in the process of renegotiating main sponsor deals. AC Milan are in the last year of their $125 million Emirates Airlines sponsorship, while Inter look to be close to replacing long-term sponsor Pirelli (paying $10.5 million per season) with China’s Evergrande.

No term or value have been given for the A2A deal. “This partnership today which further consolidates the link between the club and the city of Milan,” said Inter’s Corporate CEO Alessandro Antonello. “The energy sector is naturally one of innovation, a key value for Inter that is shared with our partners. We are certain that this new partnership will demonstrate great strength and help us to achieve significant objectives.”
