VAR debuts in African club competition at Moroccan Cup

November 11 – VAR debuted for the first time in an African domestic competitions on Saturday with the introduction of the technology in the Moroccan Cup.

The FRMF Steering Committee implemented the decision to being in VAR after a presentation last week by the Central Commission of Arbitration on final preparations. A delegation from the International Football Federation Board (IFAB) visited the Marrakech Stadium to set up VAR.

In the first semi-final between TAS Casablanca and Difaa El Jadida, the technology played its part with a 120th minute penalty deciding the game following a VAR check.

Last summer VAR was also introduced at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. The video system was used from the quarter-final stages.
