Concacaf get ready for Tokyo 2020 qualifiers with Mexican draw

January 10 –  With the AFC’s U23 Championship and Olympic qualifiers in full swing, Concacaf have announced the draw for the eight-team tournament that will qualify their two teams for the Tokyo 2020 game.

In 2012 Mexico won the men’s Olympic tournament and with a resurgence in national team fortunes and the U17 team having lost last year to Brazil in the U17 World Cup final, the Mexicans will start the qualifiers as solid favourites.

Mexico are hosting the tournament in the Jalisco Stadium and Akron Stadium, in Guadalajara.

The eight teams have been drawn in two groups of  four. The Mexicans have been drawn in with the US in group play. The top two teams from each group qualify for the semi-finals.

Group stages will be played between March 20 – 27, with the final on April 1.

The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) today conducted the official draw for the 2020 Concacaf Men’s Olympic Qualifying Championship, at the Akron Stadium, in Guadalajara, Mexico.
