Guatemala to host 2020 Concacaf Futsal finals with nations hunting World Cup slots

January 24 – Concacaf has named Guatemala as host for its 2020 Futsal Championship which will qualify four teams for the Futsal World Cup in Lithuania 2020.

To be played May 1-10, the championship will see 20 nations hosted at the Domo Polideportivo and Teodoro Palacios Flores Gymnasium in Guatemala City. Both venues have hosted multiple international competitions, including the 2000 FIFA Futsal World Cup.

This will be the seventh edition of the Conacaf Futsal Championships. Costa Rica, Panama, Guatemala and Cuba qualified for the 2016 World Cup in Colombia, a tournament won by Argentina.

They will all be chasing qualification for the 24-team Lithuania World Cup against Canada, Curacao, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Haiti, Martinique, Mexico, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Sint Maarten, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago and USA.
“The Guatemala National Football Federation has an excellent track-record of developing and promoting Futsal, making them a natural choice to host this important competition” said Concacaf General Secretary Philippe Moggio.
