Games postponed after attack leaves semi-pro player dead

January 27 – Three men have been arrested after an English part-time footballer died following an assault in Retford in the east midlands area of the country.

Jordan Sinnott, who was on loan at Matlock town in the seventh tier of English football three divisions below League Two, died in hospital after being found unconscious with a fractured skull.

He was the son of former professional player Lee Sinnott who represented Crystal Palace, Watford and Bradford City during his career.

Matlock Town’s game on Saturday was postponed as was their forthcoming fixture against Grantham Town on Tuesday.

In a tribute to Sinnott on twitter, the non-league club wrote: “You weren’t just a footballer, you were our friend and brother. You gave us incredible memories and scored your first career hat-trick in your final game for the club.”
