Paddy Power supports ‘Unsponsored Derby’ by removing all its logos and branding

January 28 – Bookmaker Paddy Power is continuing its ‘unsponsor’ campaign by taking its branding off tomorrow’s League Two match between Newport County and Macclesfield Town – now tagged as Paddy Power’s second ‘Unsponsored Derby’ as part of its ‘Save Our Shirt’ campaign.

The Paddy Power campaign removes all branding leaving no short sponsorship visible.

It is a typically opportunistic marketing gimmick by the bookie coming just a couple of days after UK Minister for Sports Nigel Adams said that his department will review football’s relationship with sport as part of the review if the UK Gambling Act.

Paddy Power has built a reputation of humorous and often risqué marketing promotions.

For tomorrow’s match Paddy Power has unsponsored almost all of the advertising boards at Newport’s Rodney Parade ground, as well as the match sponsorship, programme and Man of the Match award. The bookie has teamed up with several brands to ensure that most of the perimeter boards will bear no brand logos.

A trophy will be given to the winner of the match or if the game is a draw then both teams will share the trophy. The previous unsponsored match, which featured both Newport and Macclesfield, ended in a 1-1 draw at Moss Rose.

Alex Eagle, Newport County’s Commercial Manager, added: “NCAFC are delighted to be hosting the second ‘Save Our Shirt’ Unsponsored Derby of the season. A huge thank you to our partners who have got involved, here’s hoping County can get the win and secure the trophy!”
