Real Madrid find form as Asensio strikes to take LaLiga esports title

March 24 – LaLiga said that more than a million total viewers tuned in to its charity FIFA 20 Challenge esports tournament over the weekend, with more than 170,000 viewers watching as Real Madrid striker Marco Asensio beat Leganés player Aitor Ruibal to claim the title.

19 LaLiga Santander players took part in the eSports tournament – #LaLigaSantanderChallenge – in an initiative begun by Spanish video game influencer Ibai Llanos, and which has the backing of LaLiga and its title sponsor Santander.

The competition format features a series of ties that will be decided in best-of-one games played over 18 minutes (2, nine-minute halves).

The competition opened with the staging of the draw which drew an audiences of more than 65,000.

The competition was streamed live via YouTube, Twitch, the LaLigaSportsTV over-the-top (OTT) platform, as well as on La Liga’s official social media channels. Domestic broadcast partner Movistar+ also showed matches on Spanish television, via its Deportes 1 channel, while Eleven Sports aired the tournament in Belgium and Portugal.
