Bility calls on UEFA and Conmebol chiefs to demand Infantino resigns

By Paul Nicholson

July 29 – Musa Bility, the banned former Confederation of African Football (CAF) executive committee member and former president of the Liberian FA, has kept up his pressure on FIFA and its president Gianni Infantino with an open letter to UEFA president Alexander Ceferin and Conmebol president Alexander Dominguez demanding they call for the FIFA president’s resignation.

Neither Ceferin or Dominguez could be considered to be Infantino-friendly in the current politics of FIFA, but Bility says they have not gone far enough in their questioning and that their “continued silence in the the face of FIFA corruption is unconscionable”.

In the letter he catalogues various FIFA failings, particularly in Africa where he points to the Pricewaterhouse Cooper audit that discovered $24 million of “embezelled” money and the multiple sexual harassment allegations against CAF president Ahmad. He says the FIFA Bureau (of which Ceferin and Domnguez are members) used the imposition of FIFA general secretary Fatma Samoura into CAF for six months to protect and cover up Ahmad’s corruption.

He says some of the more serious allegations into Ahmad’s behaviour have been swept under the carpet including those of “sexual harassment and assault on female employees and outside contractors, the exact same allegations that triggered FIFA expulsions on Yves Jean-Bart of the Haiti FA and Keramuddin Karim of the Afghanistan FA earlier this year.”

“What concerns me about this particular allegation is the fact that both of you, Pres. ČEFERIN and Pres. DOMÍNGUEZ, have not felt the need to draw a personal line in the sand with regards to these disgusting sexual accusations, and you have therefore continued to sit happily with this CAF President in meetings of the FIFA Bureau and of the FIFA Council,” says Bility.

Bility also points to the current Swiss prosecutor’s probe into Infantino’s secret and undocumented meetings with former Swiss Attorney General Michael Lauber and whether Infantino should face criminal charges for interfering with the course of justice, saying that he has “arrived at the conclusion that UEFA and CONMEBOL are the de facto patrons of FIFA prosperity, holding up its competitions and therefore its commercial viability. Conversely, this also means that the two institutions may also have unwittingly abetted the corruption that has taken root therein.”

He concludes saying that “the time has come for you to demand the immediate resignation of Gianni Infantino from the FIFA Presidency before he irrevocably destroys what is left of it. Should he decline to do so, UEFA and CONMEBOL should be prepared to withdraw from all FIFA competitions and to create brand new replacement competitions.”
