AC Milan Women open new account with Banco BPM

August 11 – AC Milan Women, who are ploughing their own sponsorship furrow separate to their men’s team, have announced Italian bank Banco BPM as their new shirt sponsor.

Previously the women’s team had Emirates as their shirt sponsor in a deal that covered the men’s team. The renegotiation of the new Emirates deal with the club didn’t include the women’s team, opening the way for Banco BPM.

The multi-year deal is built on the back of a 10-year partnership with the club that has seen the bank involved with grassroots initiatives including coaching clinics and other social initiatives.

“One of the objectives the bank has set itself is to promote awareness of gender equality, supporting all-female activities and projects which valorise women and their human and professional expertise,” said Banco BPM chief executive Giuseppe Castagna.

“This partnership with a great club like AC Milan allows us to accomplish our goal while sharing the values of sport: team spirit, passion and hard work as sport is synonymous with education, training, social responsibility and integration.”

AC Milan Women have finished third in the last two top-flight Serie A Women seasons, just missing out on qualification for the Uefa Women’s Champions League.

AC Milan have just renewed their short sponsorship with Emirates in a reduced €10 million deal. With a commitment to building its women’s team, the club has separated the women’s sponsorship inventory from the men’s to create more commercial opportunity.

Ivan Gazidis, AC Milan’s chief executive, added: “We watch the women’s team with immense pride at AC Milan and we are thrilled that one of our most valuable partners Banco BPM has made the commitment to support our vision for growth, becoming the team’s first independent shirt sponsor.

“The passion and professionalism that the Rossonere show every day is unmatched and, as a club that prides itself on inclusiveness and integrity, we at AC Milan are confident that this is just the beginning of great things to come, with the support of Banco BPM.”
