Tunisia’s Club Africain lands Qatar Airways deal

August 17 – Qatar Airways has added Tunisia’s Club Africain to its growing global sponsorship portfolio in a new 3-year deal.

Airlines have been running up major losses during the Covid-19 crisis, but government-supported Qatar Airlines has expanded its sponsorship activities with a latest agreement that will see the airline’s logo on Club Africain’s football, handball and basketball teams’ playing jerseys from the 2020/21 season until the end of the 2023/24 season.

Club Africain is one of Tunisia’s largest clubs, based in the capital Tunis. They have won the domestic crown on 13 occasions and triumphed in the African Cup of Champions Clubs, the equivalent of today’s African Champions League, in 1991.

Club African chairman, Abdulessalem Al Younsi said: “Upon celebrating the centenary anniversary of Club Africain, we are delighted to announce that the club has reached a four-year partnership with Qatar Airways. Club Africain is elated to be a part of the major group of international teams that are partnered with and sponsored by Qatar Airways. Club Africain is widely known as the club of the people and the most popular club in Tunisia, and was the first to achieve an international trophy amongst its local competitors.”

The Tunisian club is the latest addition to Qatar Airways’ sponsorship portfolio in football, which included Paris St. Germain, AS Roma, Boca Juniors, FC Bayern München, K.A.S. Eupen and Al Sadd SC. The airlines is also an official sponsor for the next World Cup.
