Coronavirus: Rules relaxed to allow 1,000 fans into Serie A matches

September 21 – Italy, where the coronavirus pandemic was once at its most virulent in Europe but where it now appears to have largely avoided a second spike, has agreed to allow up to 1,000 supporters to attend top-flight matches.

The regions of Emilia Romagna – home to Parma, Sassuolo and Bologna – and Veneto, where Verona are based, had already announced that fans could watch matches in their jurisdiction. Sports minister Vincenso Spadafora said the measure has now been extended nationwide.

Spectators have been barred from Serie A matches since March but started to enjoy a phased return at the weekend when Napoli won 2-0 at Parma.

Fans had to wear masks and follow social distancing regulations, while they also had their temperature checked upon entering the stadium.
