Concacaf moves first Nations League final four to June 2021

September 23 – Concacaf have shifted the inaugural finals of their Nations League competition from March 2021 to June 2021 to give space in the calendar to get the first round of the federation’s World Cup qualifiers underway.

Concerns over the spread of the Coronavirus had forced Concacaf to suspend their reformatted World Cup 2022 qualifiers that now involve 30 nations in the preliminary round. The Nations League Finals will see the four winners of the Nations League A groups – Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico and USA – compete in a yet to be named centralised location.

The match-ups for this final four format will see USA vs Honduras and Mexico vs Costa Rica in the Semifinals, before a Final and a third-placed match.
“Concacaf will now work with our stakeholders to finalize the location and specific dates for this competition,” said a confederation press release. It also said Concacaf was in discussion with FIFA on agreeing a new schedule for the World Cup qualifiers that retains the current format.
