PSG’s di Maria banned for Marseilles spitting incident

September 24 – Paris St-Germain forward Angel di Maria has been banned for four matches for his role in the ill-tempered Ligue 1 defeat by Marseille on September 13.

Di Maria escaped punishment for the brawl in the last minute of the Ligue 1 match which led to PSG’s Neymar, Leandro Paredes and Layvin Kurzawa being sent off along with Marseille’s Dario Benedetto and Jordan Amavi.

But he was subsequently the subject of an investigation by French football authorities for his role in the melee, after Marseille coach Andre Villas Boas claimed the Argentinian had spat at one of his players.

His suspension takes effect from next Tuesday, meaning he is eligible for Sunday’s trip to Stade de Reims but will miss games against Angers, Nimes, Dijon and Nantes.
