September 30 – Liverpool’s recently signed midfielder Thiago Alcantara has become the latest top-flight footballer to test positive for coronavirus.
Alcantara, who has only just joined from Bayern Munich for £20 million, was absent for Monday night’s victory over Arsenal and is currently self isolating.
His positive result comes in addition to the ten cases announced by the Premier League following their latest round of testing.
“The club has, and will continue to follow, all protocols relating to Covid-19 and Thiago will remain in self-isolation for the required period of time,” Liverpool said in a statement.
Alcantara made his debut in a 2-0 win over Chelsea when he came on as a second-half substitute but will also miss Sunday’s league visit to Aston Villa.
