Bayern’s Lewandowski and Chelsea’s Harder take UEFA player of the year awards

October 2 – Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski has been named UEFA men’s Player of the Year for 2019-20 after a remarkable 55 goals in 47 games.

The Polish striker was in sensational form as he helped Bayern win the Champions League as well as the German domestic double.

Lewandowski , who scored 16 more goals than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues, won by a landslide earning 477 points in the vote with second placed Kevin de Bruyne of Manchester City getting 90 and German keeper Manuel Neuer third on  66, with neither Lionel Messi (joint 4th) nor Christiano Ronaldo (10th) making the top three. Chelsea forward Pernille Harder received the women’s Player of the Year award.

Bayern’s Hansi Flick, little known before he took over from the sacked Niko Kovac,  was named men’s coach of the year after leading his team to the Champions League crown.

De Bruyne was named Champions League midfielder of the season, thus preventing  a Bayern clean sweep of the men’s awards.
