Kenya’s delayed elections see Mwendwa returned as president

October 19 – Nicholas Mwendwa (pictured) will serve as Football Kenya Federation president for another four years after being re-elected by a landslide following a bruising political battle.

Mwendwa garnered 77 votes, with Lordvick Aduda managing five votes and Herbert Mwachiro three. Two other candidates received no support at all

The elections had been cancelled twice before by the country’s Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) but were finally given the all clear on Friday after it threw out objections.

“I am happy and relieved this process is finished,” said Mwendwa. “I appreciate those of you who have walked the whole journey with us. I am now the football president of everyone and wish to say here that I am ready to work with all of you to improve the standards of the game.”

But former FKF boss Sam Nyamweya and ex-Cecafa secretary general Nicholas Musonye, who lost the latest bout of in-fighting, described the elections as a “sham”.
