FanDuel moves into MLS with D.C. United deal for its sportsbook

October 28 – As Europe’s big football markets of the UK, Spain and Italy consider a re-regulation of their gambling rules, so the fast de-regulating US market is seeing a boom in the sports sponsorship opportunities from newly licensed betting operators.

MLS side D.C. United has unveiled a new multi-year partnership with FanDuel as the team’s exclusive sports betting sponsor. The deal comes with a plan to open a retail sportsbook at Audi Field in 2021, pending licensing and regulatory approvals from the DC Lottery.

This is the first sports betting partnership for Fan Duel with a Major League Soccer team.

A club press release said the FanDuel Sportsbook will feature various betting windows and self-service betting terminals available to sports fans 365 days a year, and will make betting markets on all major US sports including soccer, baseball football, basketball, golf, boxing, and motorsports.

“DC United is looking forward to the opportunity of working with a first-rate operator in this new and exciting space,” said Sam Porter, the club’s chief strategy officer.

“The FanDuel Sportsbook is best-in-class and we believe their expertise, technology, and product will provide our fans, guests at Audi Field, and the Buzzard Point neighborhood a full-slate of entertainment options.”

New York-based FanDuel (which first game to prominence in the Fantasy Football business in the US), is a subsidiary of Flutter Entertainment which operates 12 retail sportsbooks in nine US states as well as providing mobile sports gambling in seven states.
